Our jaw is a very special joint

Because our jaw hinges on our skull, with muscle attachments to the skull and structures at the base of the neck, the position (or Mal-position) can have a significant impact on how our jaw joint moves.

Our jaw hinges on the temporomandibular joint, therefore issues with it are often called TMJ, or sometimes TMD (Temporomandibular Dysfunction).

Is your head on straight?

If your head and neck posture are not in neutral, it may be influencing how your jaw moves

Each joint and muscle in our body is designed to move in a certain way, starting from a neutral posture. As posture breaks down our body gives us signals that something is not right; often pain, but also clicks, and loss of range of motion. The function of your airway may even be negatively influenced by your head, neck, and jaw position!

A full exam of your TMD (jaw joint) also involves an examination of your head and neck posture!

At precision posture, specificity begins with a look at the big picture. We assess the whole body to start, and look to correct the cause, not the effect. Jaw complaints may be caused by a breakdown in posture, but the reverse is also possible!
